THW’s Calcudoku
Calcudoku, also known as Kenken, Mathdoku, Kendoku and probably a lot more, I don’t know, is a math and logic puzzle game invented by Tetsuya Miyamoto in 2004. Take a Sudoku puzzle, add a little addition, subtraction, a soupçon of multiplication and division. Put it in at 375 and pretty soon you’ve got THE MOST ADDICTIVE PUZZLE GAME OF ALL TIME according to me.
Why THW’s? THW’s Calcudoku was born out of a desire for a truly great Calcudoku app. Because, frankly, none of the existing apps have all the features, options, and even basic functionality that I want. Oh, this app over here doesn’t let me edit notes in multiple cells simultaneously. That app has ads. I hate ads. This other app makes you buy packs of puzzles when you finish the ones you already have. What sense does that make? No offense, other Calcudoku apps. But the game deserves better.
Features
UNLIMITED PUZZLES! THW’s Calcudoku has hundreds of puzzles built-in, but if you’ve ever played Kenken or Calcudoku before, you know that that’s not enough. That’s why THW’s also lets you generate an infinite number of puzzles ranging from 3×3 easy up to 9×9 hard. If you don’t know what that means then try out the game, you’ll love it.
NO ADDITIONAL PURCHASES EVER! Buy the app once and puzzle the rest of your life away in a blissful logic fog.
NO ADS! How are you supposed to solve difficult puzzles when you’re being interrupted or distracted by ads? Ugh.
WHIMSY! Lots of it. Oodles.
DESIGN AND SHARE YOUR OWN PUZZLES! With the built-in puzzle designer, easily and intuitively create your own puzzles, or port puzzles from your newspaper or wherever you’re playing Kenken now. Each puzzle has to have one and only one correct solution. Create collections out of puzzles you have played or designed, then export and share those collections with your friends. Or make some fiendishly difficult ones and share them with your enemies.
FULLY CUSTOMIZABLE. I mean fully. You can change almost everything about this app. Don’t like a certain feature? Turn it off! Wish something behaved a little different? There’s probably an option to change it. And the colors, oh so many colors. Change the color of just about anything you see on screen until it’s exactly what you want.
UP TO FIVE DIFFERENT NOTES COLORS! Maybe it will help you, I don’t know. I use two personally, but you may want more, less, or even none at all. Up to you!
THEMES THEMES THEMES! There’s nothing anyone loves more than themes. Start out with only a few, but as you unlock the app’s secrets you will also unlock more and more themes. Not enough themes? Make your own from colors or photos.
DID YOU SAY SECRETS? I did. There are lots. Will you uncover Dracula’s castle? Stop an alien invasion?
DAILY CHALLENGES! Four puzzles every day of varying difficulties. Keep your streak going, and compare it with your friends on the leaderboards.
LOTS OF TOOLS AND HINT OPTIONS! Still learning how to play or already an expert, THW’s Calcudoku has a bunch of different ways to help you streamline the solving experience. There are simple tools, like a calculator and a snapshot function, and more complicated options like pre-populating note possibilities and automatically filling in obvious solutions. If you’re already a pro, these options can help skip the easy stuff and get to the real meat of the puzzle. But be careful! Some of the options are designed explicitly for people well familiar with the game already. You will ruin it for yourself if you turn those on too early.
MOSTLY WORKING KEYBOARD SUPPORT! And if there’s demand for it, I’ll add mostly working controller support too, though you’d have to be nuts to want to play this with a controller. Kidding again. There’s no wrong way to play Calcudoku. If your keyboard has a number pad on it, OMG, playing the game with a keyboard feels soooo good.
SOUND DISABLED BY DEFAULT! That’s all there is to say about that.
GAME CENTER AND ICLOUD SUPPORT! Earn trophies, build up puzzle streaks and see how your streak is doing on the leaderboard. All your settings and unlocks are sync’d with iCloud so everything is already the way you like it if you play on multiple devices. I would make puzzles sync too, but that could start eating into peoples’ iCloud storage and I don’t want that. Send me a carrier pigeon if you really want this feature and I’ll consider it.
RESPONSIVE DEV! My goal with this app is for it to already behave the way you would want it to, and if it doesn’t, it should have options to make it do so. This is the Calcudoku app that I want, but it should also be the Calcudoku app that you want. Feature requests are very welcome!
PUZZLE HISTORY! THW’s keeps a history of every puzzle you’ve played. Favorite ones you like and replay them, or make a collection out of them and share it to and fro. Huzzah!
WHAT’S GOING ON WITH YOU? I hope you’re having a great day.
About Freek0n productions
Freek of Nature productions was founded in 2026 with the goal of creating cool apps for cool people. No in app purchases, ever. Buy the app once and only once.
No ads, ever. I hate ads. I would much rather pay a few bucks up front than be interrupted with unskipable ads all the time. I reserve the right for shameless self-promotion, though.
